Sia Figiel

Sia Figiel is an award-winning, internationally acclaimed poet, writer and painter from Matautu Tai, Samoa. Her first novel, where we once belonged, won the 1997 Commonwealth Writer’s Prize, Best First Book for the South East Asia – South Pacific region, the first Pacific Islander to win the prize. Her work has been translated to French, Catalan, German, Spanish and Danish. Sia has represented Samoa and the Pacific Islands at international literary festivals and conferences and has performed her poetry at the Shakespeare Globe Theater, London. Sia is also an ODDe Warrior and fights obesity and diabetes with diet and exercise. She is an amateur athlete and has completed several 5k’s to raise diabetes and cancer awareness, the 2015 Irongirl, the Clearwater Florida half Marathon, the 2014 Nautica Malibu Triathlon, and the 2015 Honolulu Marathon. Sia is a tandem-mom to two teenage sons. Freelove is her fourth novel.
